LightLouver Description
LightLouver LLC defines daylighting as the purposeful use of sunlight to meet the illumination requirements of an architectural space. Daylighting is about meeting the illumination requirements of a space, but doing so while maintaining visual comfort and solar control. As we like to say “Don’t confuse daylighting with windows”. Yes, windows can allow sunlight to enter a space, but windows do not control sunlight distribution, contrast ratios / visual comfort and direct sunlight penetration onto work surfaces. For this, you need the LightLouver Daylighting System that redirects daylight deep into the space while eliminating glare and all direct sunlight penetration onto work surfaces.
The LightLouver™ Daylighting System provides daylighting and solar control in one remarkable product. Using a patented, passive optical design, the LightLouver™ Daylighting System redirects daylight deep into the space while eliminating glare and all direct sunlight penetration onto work surfaces – providing excellent daylighting and solar control for east, west and south facing fenestration. Integrated into the building fenestration design, the LightLouver Daylighting System provides uniform ambient lighting, enabling electric lights to be turned off or dimmed. Mounted inside the building, directly adjacent to the daylight glazing, the LightLouver units are protected from the weather, and pivot to enable cleaning of the daylight glazing. The LightLouver Daylighting System eliminates the need for costly and unsightly exterior or interior light shelves and provides superior daylighting performance.
The patented LightLouver reflective slat design redirects all sunlight above a 5 degree altitude angle upward onto the ceiling of the daylit space, providing ambient lighting and eliminating direct sunlight on work surfaces. LightLouver units are a perfect solution for East, West and South facing windows.
As an optical daylighting and solar control product, LightLouver units are recommended for east, west and south facing facades ( in northern latitudes, > 20oN) to redirect incident sunlight deep into the space to provide ambient lighting while eliminating glare and direct sunlight on work surfaces. LightLouver units are not recommended for north facing facades (+/- 30o of true North) because there is little direct sunlight on these facades except during summer morning and evening hours, and the LightLouver units, while balancing daylight distribution, would actually reduce the annual amount of daylight entering the space from these north facing windows. However, where the space function is extremely sensitive to direct sunlight or where a strong aesthetic desire exists to have a uniform fenestration design on all orientations, we are pleased to provide a quote and all necessary design assistance. However, we must clearly indicate to designers, owners and occupants that these north facades are not the intended application for the product and the performance will be limited.
