AIA COTE Top 10 Project Incorporates the LightLouver Daylighting System

July 15 2010

The American Institute of Architects Committee on the Environment ( COTE ) has selected ten projects throughout the U.S. to receive its Top 10 award for exemplary sustainable design.  Manassas Park Elementary School + Pre-K, located in Manassas Park, Virginia, received a Top 10 Award for the new 140,000 square foot facility which incorporates numerous energy efficiency and sustainable design strategies.

A key energy efficiency, sustainable design and educational strategy was daylighting. The design team wanted to closely tie the interior of the school with the outdoors. The LightLouver Daylighting System was chosen as the primary daylighting strategy for the south facing classrooms. When combined with exterior horizontal shading above the view glazing, and a sloping ceiling from the perimeter to the interior, high quality, glare-free daylighting is provided to the classrooms.

LightLouver Daylighting System Receives Innovation Award at International Lighting Convention

July 14 2010

LightLouver LLC of Louisville, Colorado was one of four companies receiving a 2010 Innovation Award at the LightFair International convention in Las Vegas in May 2010. The awards recognize those companies who are lighting industry leaders in innovative product design and technology.

The LightFair International Award judges, an independent panel of renowned lighting professionals, gave the Judge’s Citation Award for Innovation to the LightLouver Daylighting System saying it represented a “better mousetrap” for providing daylighting in schools, offices, and other commercial buildings. LightLouver LLC was selected from nearly 200 submissions in 14 lighting product categories. Only four companies received the 2010 Innovation Award.

“We are very excited and proud to receive this prestigious award from the lighting industry”, said Michael Holtz, Co-Founder and Principal of LightLouver LLC. “It is recognition of the innovative design we have developed for daylighting commercial buildings while controlling glare and direct sunlight penetration.  With electric lighting costs representing 30 to 40 percent of a typical office building’s annual energy costs, daylighting is an essential part of an overall strategy to achieve low and zero energy commercial buildings, and the LightLouver Daylighting System can reduce these costs by more than half.”
